Martin wasn't the first to make major magazine covers or capture attention but her rise in the mid-1990s is a critical fulcrum point in the evolution of women's boxing. Unlike the single women who caught attention before, Martin was the breakthrough star at a moment of growth. By 2012, women were competing at the Olympics and the ranks continue to grow in numbers and talent.
