Gabriel Campillo Destroys Beibut Shumenov’s Dream

Spanish boxer Gabriel Campillo successfully defended his WBA World light heavyweight title. The Spaniard managed to win the title at his opponent’s backyard when he beat Hugo Hernan Garay in Argentina and now retained his belt also away from home in Sport Complex “Daulet”, Astana, Kazakhstan. Campillo, nicknamed “Chico Guapo”, overpowered local prospect Beibut Shumenov in a close bout.

Still reads like a good showing from Shumenov considering where he is in his career, but I'll withhold judgment until I can obtain video of the fight.

Seems like it was an exciting, competitive fight. Scorecards were close, and both were knocked down.

Do you actually go edit the posts where you were wrong? Really?

              Dissapointing.Really thought he'd win.

It seems Campillo used the same tactics he used against Garay.Letting the man punch himself out.

              He can bounce back though.

                I'm confident he will.

Campillo has been KOed by an up-and-coming European fighter, Vyacheslav Uzelkov, so if Campillo is better than most people thought, then perhaps Uzelkov is too...

Nah,Campillo is just the right man in the right time.

Uzelkov is seriously nothng special. Most people(including myself) thought he lost to Lakatus, and the tough romanian slugger was past his best for a while.

I've seen Campillo and he is an okay fighter, but he isn't notable on the global scene. It is far more likely that Shumenov just generated hype with his aggressive matchmaking that was above his actual ability level.
