  • Tyrone Harris Stuns Marvin Quintero, Revives Career

By Jake Donovan - Tyrone Harris was forced to pay a fine for missing weight at Thursday’s official weigh-in, but it was highly touted junior lightweight prospect Marvin Quintero who paid a heavy price once the opening bell sounded.

A back and forth slugfest ended with Harris scoring an eighth round stoppage in a major upset at the Pechanga Resort and Casino in Temecula, California.

Quintero weighed in at the contracted limit of 131 lb; Harris was 132 ¼ lb, and agreed to financial extraction after failed efforts to shed the extra weight.

Harris fought his usual pace, jumping out to a quick start, including a right uppercut early in the opening round. Quintero, usually a blazing starter himself, showed poise in keeping it strictly boxing in the early going, offering just enough foot movement to cause his opponent’s punches to fall short before countering with his straight left. Harris adjusted, closing the gap and scoring to the body. [details]

Man I cant believe Quintero lost to this guy.

Well anyways Quinteros lack of defense made him pay to night.

This fight was one of the best this year!!!!!!!!

How could you not believe that? lol Quintero has zero defense and Harris, even though he lost by way of TKO to Antillon, still had Urbano lookin beat up and dead tired in their fight. Harris is a thick and strong body to push around, and that's at lightweight. Antillon got him, but if that fight were to continue I don't think Urbano would have had enough energy to keep fightin as hard as he was forced to in that night.

A fighter like Quintero who has no defense shouldn't be fighting strong durable lightweights lol. I'm sure they thought bringing Harris down to 131 would weaken him, but he didn't even get to down to the contract weight, let alone enough to weaken him officially. Reminds me of the Cotto vs Paq situation..

But I haven't even heard of that Avalos kid, but he looks like he's got some pop.

Who Quintero? That may be, but Harris was still a strong lightweight. I think Quintero's people gambled on Harris bein weaker than that, plus he was comin off a loss. But he didn't have to lose much weight, he didn't even make weight. And in his last loss, he still forced a lot out of Urbano and that was at lightweight. But Quintero was game, he just couldn't stand up to shots like that, especially from a fighter as strong as Harris. I mean even in a TKO loss to Antillon, I think that was physically the most demanding fight in Antillon's career.

Edit: My bad, the Valle fight was more of a physical test for Antillon, but that Harris fight didn't look like a cakewalk.

Tarver has a bright future behind the microphone, he's got much more appeal ringside then in the ring.
