  • Agbeko-Darchinyan: War Of Words Precedes The War

By Jake Donovan - Clearly, July 11 cannot come quick enough for Joseph King Kong Agbeko and Vic Darchinyan.

From the moment their bantamweight fight was signed, the two lower weight ****ers have said plenty to one another, through the press, on the phone, and up close and personal.

It’s a rivalry for sure, but certainly not a friendly one, a point on which the media was once again reminded during the final pre-fight press conference Thursday afternoon at the Bank Atlantic Center in Sunrise, Florida.

The venue plays host to this weekend’s show, which airs on Showtime (Saturday, 9P ET/PT).

Rare is the occasion when Darchinyan (32-1-1, 26KO) has a kind word for any of his opponents. In a career that is now rapidly approaching its third weight class, the brash transplanted Armenian, now fighting out of Sydney, Australia, has done plenty of talking prior to just about every fight. On all but one occasion, he’s fully backed up his words in the ring. [details]

I`d be surprised if the fight reaches the "champion" rounds...

This fight will be ill. I thought to have a get together but opted not to. I'll enjoy this one wit a toned down crowd, some drank, and some *****. Can't wait. Agbeko should have this by KO.

cotto does'nt really need the paquiao fight. he can rest and take on the marquez-mayweather winner in the early spring.

i don't like the thrash-talking, overconfident darchinyan. i love to see him getting ko'ed by agbeko though i believe its impossible.

Someone's getting KTFO in this one. Both of these guys are so awkward I wouldn't be surprised if there are some accidental headbutts, cuts, etc. I just hope the end is decisive.

Not only do I like Vic’s constant trash talking, I also like the facial expressions that he makes. There is no way this fight goes 12 that should be an easy Vegas bet. Vic KO 9th

King Kong Agbeko didn't look all that special against William Gonzales in his last fight.

I don't know man. At first, I was thinking I would be the underdog, but now I don't think I will after watching a couple of his fights.

I like when Vic gets shut up, but not much from seeing Agbeko makes me think he will shut him up.

I usually like a live dog at the sportbook though.
