Seven months after losing his IBF 122 lb. title to WBA champion Celestino Caballero in November of 2008 via 4th round TKO on US national television, "The Canadian Kid" Steve Molitor (28-1, 11 KO's) has regained the confidence of an elite champion ready to reclaim his spot atop the boxing world.
That climb back up the mountain starts with the main event of June 26th's Rumble at Rama VIII card at Casino Rama, in Rama, Ontario, and a crucial showdown with the IBF's number eight junior featherweight Heriberto Ruiz (41-7-2, 23 KO's), with the winner no more than one fight away from fighting for the world title.
"I feel strong, fast, and very sharp," Molitor said after a recent workout.
"I'm ready to pick up where I left off before Caballero, and that's as one of the best pure boxers in the world."
Molitor and his team have left no stone unturned in the most important training camp of the fighter's career, bringing in sparring partners such as Benoit Gaudet, who recently fell just short in his bid to topple formidable WBC Super Featherweight world champion Humberto Soto, and IBF #5 featherweight Monty Meza-Clay.
According to Meza-Clay, Molitor's quest for a second title belt will be short and fruitful.
"You can tell why Steve was a world champion," Meza-Clay said after a spirited sparring session.
"His concentration, and focus is incredible. He's so relaxed and clam, you can tell he's been boxing forever, and that it's second nature for him.
"Guys like this don't just forget what made them great. Losing is just part of the game, he'll be a champion again soon.
