The Top 20 Strawweights of All-Time

By Cliff Rold - Follow the sweet science long enough and even a passing fan will hear, with sounds of awe, about an ‘original eight,’ about a bygone era when the sport’s weight classes were limited to just that number with (usually) just that many World champions.

The era didn’t last very long.

As early as the 1920s, prizefighting saw extra prizes added by way of Jr. Divisions at Featherweight, Lightweight and Welterweight. Over the course of time, the total number has grown to a modern seventeen weight classes. Sometimes derided as bastard divisions, most didn’t begin with particular esteem. As the years and indeed decades have passed, all have built their own legacies in blood and all have produced greatness in the ring. [details]

Lopez was quite possibly the most beautiful fighter to watch ever. Everything he did was like poetry in motion, boxing style. Just superb. His technique, as it says in the article, was so flawless and everything he did was done with precision.

It's a real pity he wasn't forty pounds heavier because he would, without a doubt, be remembered as one of the truly greatest to ever fight. Top ten.

I think the first 2 are very right...Finito Lopez and Ivan Calderon. Finally Calderon is getting the recognition he deserves.

yeah, same with calderon, if he was bigger he'd be a superstar and would have been p4p rated a long time ago- only now when hes pretty much past his best (although he did turn pro late, and his skills means hes taken little damage, so it could be a while before he slides) is he starting to look at getting a payday and a spot on the p4p #10
