Chagaev-Valuev II: All Quiet on This Western Front

By Cliff Rold - It didn’t take much to know the bulk of the early 1980s Heavyweights gracing TV screens were bad.

They were on the screens for a start.

It’s how one knows that, at least in America, things are really bad for the Heavyweights right now. This Saturday night, top five Heavyweights Ruslan Chagaev (25-0-1, 17 KO) and Nicolay Valuev (50-1, 34 KO) square off for the second time to resolve a dispute which shouldn’t be over the WBA belt (Chagaev beat Valuev for said belt in 2007 and hasn’t lost since). I wouldnt say all the early 80's heavyweights were bad Tim Witherspoon, Michael Dokes, Trevor Berbick, Renaldo Snipes, Pinklon Thomas, Gerrie Coetzee and Greg Page were all decent fighters from what i have seen.

Why are we begging people to watch crap fights?

they should bring back Smoke Gainer for the undercard.

If we're lucky, the "fur will be flying" off Valuev's back!

I'm glad the heavyweight division is no longer THE division to watch. Faceless, deadpan fighters from the Soviet bloc who prefer to win by robbery rather than knockout are not what boxing needs right now.

good thing Ruslan Chagaev beat Valuev the first time, because that "chasing Marciano" record was annoying
