Back to the amatuer program: Still not as good as the past. They need to go back to the old system.
i think the old system better prepared you for a pro fight then the new system, its funny though, chop chop corley is one of the greatest amatuer fighters of all time and was a servicable pro. its hard to tell alot of times, very few guys display it early, guys like judah, mayweather, vargas, jones jr etc showed alot before they went pro, but then you got guys like david ried who win it all and turn into lackluster ass pros. but the older system definately bred better fighters IMO.
What good is having all the talent and skill in the world when you dont challenge yourself to display your susbstance?
I agree with EVERYTHING you've said in this thread, though I understand why you made it and to whom it was made for.
The issue here, though, isn't with those who don't appreciate what Floyd has to offer. The issue lies with Floyd himself who INSIST on not offering, not showing, not displaying what makes him one of the most skilled boxers of all time.
How is he showing his incredible ability when he wants to fight a small lightweight at WW? How is he showing what the boxing world will miss when he chooses not to fight those who will bring it out on him?
You cannot tell me that Ricky Hatton, DLH and JMM were/are bigger threats than either Mosley or Cotto who were better choices for showing how incredible Floyd is.
My point is, why should we care about what Floyd has to offer when even HE doesn't want to push himself to show us?

im not concerned with resume or anything like that, im concerned there wont be anyone to replace him that has his pedigree, very few options seem to be left on the table, who he fought or didint fight im not concerned with in this thread. guys like pernell whitaker fought everyone and he was universally hated as being a runner, coward etc in his prime, i realize only a select few peoplewill have a taste for guys like mayweather, but the thing is that his style of fighter is a dying breed and im dissapointed so few options are left as far as his replacement.

THAT particular Floyd you speak of left boxing MANY years ago. I think that you are showing a little too much bias towards Floyd by saying that when Floyd's gone, there will no longer be pure boxing in sport.
Ivan Calderon
Stephen Luevano
Sergio Martinez
Nonito Donaire
Chad Dawson
Those are ALL great pure boxers. Just because they rather exchange a little more than Floyd or Pernell doesnt mean they do not represent the essence of what makes the sport of boxing a science.
Pure defense doesnt consitute pure boxing, its the science of a complete method that does.
There are still many fighters in the sport you can follow if you're looking for the art and science of violence. You might just be lookin towards one direction a little too hard.

Martinez and Donaire great? Whoaaaaa. And Floyd and Pernell are more entertaining than Calderon.

I dont mean great resume wise, but as far as the pure boxing pool goes, they're the best representatives at the moment. I'm saying this because I've researched many of their fights.
And if you dont find Calderon entertaining, then you need to watch who you call a hypocrite.

man i didint say there would be NO pure boxing left, i said the replacements are getting fewer and fewer, notice in my topic initially i ALREADY NAMED donaire and calderon. Im a fan of dawson, but im not really sure about him yet. Sergio Martinez comes to mind also but honestly i could not recall his name. But there are very few left is my point, If you had bothered to read the names i mentioned, youd know that is NOT what i said or how i phrased it.

Nobody called you a hypocrite
Calderon's aite. Difference is Floyd and Bernard have the power to hurt opposition. Calderon really doesn't. He's a wizard in there though. I rather watch Pernell/Floyd/B-Hop tho
