CompuBox Analysis - Manny Pacquiao vs. Ricky Hatton

By CompuBox - Boxing’s first big "event" of 2009 will unfold when Ricky Hatton (45-1, 32 KO) defends his Ring Magazine junior welterweight championship against pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao (48-3-2, 36 KO) at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. While "The Pac Man" is a more than 2-to-1 favorite to beat "The Hit Man," the styles suggest a potential Fight of the Year may be near.

As of late, Pacquiao has been a living representation of the "pound for pound" concept as he has gone up and down the scale without sacrificing speed or power. Like Paul Williams, Pacquiao is competing in a different weight class for the fourth consecutive fight (Juan Manuel Marquez at 130, David Diaz at 135, Oscar de la Hoya at 147 and now Hatton at 140) and against Diaz and De La Hoya he has been nothing short of spectacular. Just finished watching the Paulie vs. Hatton replay on HBO. Damn Hattons guard is terrible and defense is terrible. Looping hooks, lunging jabs, lunging punches. You have got to be kidding me. Paulie slipped in his jab and it found a home. Hatton over whelmed Paulie cause other then that jab Paulie wasnt throwing crap.

Flip the script a little here. Pacquiao WILL BE THROWING at all angles. Pacquiaos punches WILL HURT. Pacquaio will slip and slide getting out of Hattons bull dozer tactics. Expect Hatton to slow down once Pacquiaos punches continually find a home on Hattons face. As far as Hatton touching the body, its gonna be hard to do so when leather and Pacs punching power stuns you.

Pacquiao be serious KO over Hatton. Im so confident on this outcome.

So Hatton throws half the amount of punches that pacman does yet connects on more occassions. He also connects with more power shots. If that continues on fight night then Hatton wins easily

The old axiom is good and big beat just good everytime. Hatton is a much naturally bigger man but I am not sure Pac is just "good". Greatness can transcend several disadvantages. I tend to discount the Oscar win more than I likely should simply because Oscar wass just so burned out from the weight loss. He looked so bad I am not entirely sure if I can give Pac as much credit as he deserves for pummeling him. If Hatton outweighs him by 7-10 pounds at fight time I believe Pac will have a difficult hurting him and keeping Hatton from muscling him down.
If they both fight at 143 or so Pac will have too much else going for him.
If Pac is 140 and Hatton 147 -I'm going with Hatton.

I just couldn't see this fight beyond 10 rounds! This might be a bloody war that would paint crimson on the canvass! and Pacman will stand victorious over the fallen' UK hero!
