Danny Green this morning confirmed that his much-anticipated comeback fight will be in Perth against South African Anthony van Niekerk on April 26.
The Challenge Stadium clash, as revealed in the West Australian this morning, will be Green’s first return to the ring since he announced his retirement last 12 months ago.
The 36-year-old last fought when he finally realised his dream of becoming world champion by lifting the WBA light-heavyweight title with victory over Croatia’s Stipe Drews in December 2007.
Green has been tempted back into action with the promise of a lucrative rematch with Sydney’s Anthony Mundine, who clearly outpointed the WA man when they met at super-middleweight (76.2kg) in 2006.
Green’s supporters claimed their man struggled at that weight and the likelihood is that a rematch will be at a catchweight, with Mundine currently eyeing up a shot at the WBA middleweight (72.6kg) belt.
After announcing his retirement, Green has kept himself in the public eye, most notably with his impressive displays on the Channel 7 show Dancing with the Stars.
