  • Shaun George - “This Is My Fourth Quarter”

By Jake Donovan - The formula for failure was in place.

Shaun George was coming off of the biggest win of his career, the ninth round knockout of Chris Byrd on ESPN2. That was the good news. The bad news was that the fight came more than nine months ago, with a change in promoters and other matters leading to an unforced layoff. [details]

Great, great article. I'd like to see Shaun in with anyone, but the problem is that a lot of guys are sitting on their rankings. Glen Johnson, Tavoris Cloud, anyone with a high ranking isn't going to take such a high risk fight when they could freeze out for a title shot.

Shaun is ready for anyone in the division. If confidence was deadly, he'd be a lethal weapon.

Shaun George is the real deal. I've been watching him over the years. It seems like he found himself as a fighter. If I was in charge of the rankings I would put him in at 3 or 4. Is it me or is T Cloud ranked to high. I've only seen him fight once against a punching bag. Don't get me wrong it was exciting to watch, but how is he ranked number 1. It doesn't make sense. Anyway, it would be interesting to see George fight Johnson or Cloud. Just my opinion.... It's a pick'em fight with either guy.

Very skilled fighter. My only thing I notice with him at times is he seems to take rounds off or long stretches of times when he kinda shells up and doesn't do much. I guess he's trying to conserve energy. Just something I noticed.

Shaun has called Cloud out ever since Cloud made his national TV debut last year. Shaun knows that Cloud is easy pickings for him. It's the perfect style for Shaun. But his promoter paid good money to get him into the number 1 spot and to just throw it away would be somewhat pointless.

Glen Johnson is also holding out for a final payday against the older guys in the division. I think a fight with Shaun and Johnson would be good while it lasts. Frankly, I don't think Johnson would go the distance with George.

Shaun had that problem in the past but it's been rectified in the gym from what I can tell. His problem was that he would hurt guys and then expend a lot of energy trying to finish him, like he did against Richard Hall. In his last fight he did a very effective job of finishing his opponent off without wasting anything, I was very impressed.

Maybe Shaun should fight Julio Cesar Gonzalez...guys still a name and would get George higher up the rankings

Shaun is above that at this point, fighting a punching bag like Gonzalez does nothing but further condemn a tough contender well past his prime who has been hit way too much in his career.

George wants the young guns and top contenders, beating Gonzalez proves absolutely nothing.

He's calling Glen Johnson out for a reason. I don't think he's worried about getting tired. I want to see this guy George fight Tarver, Johnson, Cloud, and Dawson. No particular order. I would like to see a round robin in that division. Let not forget the Europeans.... The WBC, WBO, and WBA champions. It would be interesting. Just my opinion.
