ONCE AGAIN, the only titles that matter are The Ring Magazine titles. Currently, 10 of their titles are vacant.

When two people fight for those titles, they'll have won a vacant title. It's just nhow the game goes.

These trinkets are used SOLELY for negotiation leverage. All there is to it. It's not like last night Miguel Cotto thought that he was at the top of the division again. But if he fought a Joshua Clottey or a Andre Berto now, it's a unification fight, so more money is thrown around.

Nothing wrong with fighting for a vacant title. Realistically, their used to only be ONE title. Now, if the guy who owned that title, was the first guy to win it, he'd have won a vacant title. Let's say he retired champion. What does that mean, no one can be champion in that division now?

My point is, the only company that gives out proper titles, has a lot of vacancies in their rankings. Anything else you should ignore. Simple as that.

But really, sure they were for vacated titles, but he beat a lot of good competition regardless.
