I know it's a practice some people do...It seems to be prevelant in PR with Cotto and now Juanma...what Advantages do you get from having your power hand in the front? besides a piston jab i guess...

Cotto's a southpaw that fights orthodox.

Yea more power on your jab, and sets up your hook. That's why Cotto and DLH's left hooks are so good, and why Juanma's Right hook is his bread and butter.

Ayub Kalule was a right hander who turned southpaw. He did it because when he started he's best friend, who took him to the gym, was a southpaw.

The advantages for an orthodox fighter is obvious in the fact that there are many more orthodox fighters than there are southpaws. It's much more difficult for an orthodox fighter to fight a southpaw than another orthodox fighter simply because fighters usually fights other righthanders.

For Kalule it meant that he had a very good left hand but only little pop in the right.

If you are a fighter who doesnt have much power in your dominant hand anyway, I would think it would be in your interest to turn yourself around. I mean the who reason for having your dominant hand back is to put the max power on the straight shots, but if that power isnt that great, then having it as your lead hand, and having better control of your jabs and hooks would make sense to me.

It basically makes your lead hand your strongest weapon.

I know DLH switched from Southpaw to Orthodox that's why his right is so ineffective.

I wonder if Virgil Hill was a lefty that fought conventional? Hagler was a righty who fought as a Southpaw.

The guys who had really ineffective back hands were DLH and Virgil Hill. Hagler and Cotto throw good shots with their back hands.
