By Rick Reeno - Saturday night at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California, Antonio Margarito (37-5, 27 KOs) will make the first defense of his WBA welterweight title against former three division champion "Sugar" Shane Mosley (45-5, 38 KOs). Margarito is coming off last July's dramatic eleven round stoppage of Miguel Cotto. No stranger to in-ring drama, Mosley was last seen in September when he knocked out Ricardo Mayorga in twelve rounds.
This could be the end of the road for Mosley. When interviewed last week by media members, Shane said he would "probably retire" from the ring if he performed poorly in the fight. Retirement is not on his mind. At age 37, he would like to continue his career for another three years and retire at 40. Against Margarito, he wants to duplicate the amazing performance of his Golden Boy partner, Bernard Hopkins, who dominated a much younger Kelly Pavlik last October. [details]
