Glen Johnson - The Road Warrior Forges On

by T.K. Stewart - If you're Glen Johnson, you just keep your head down and keep on keepin' on.

How else can he explain the fact that even though he's the former IBF and The Ring magazine light heavyweight champion that he doesn't get any respect from the powers that be in the sport of boxing?

He was the unanimous choice for the 2004 Fighter of the Year by the Boxing Writers Association of America, USA Today and The Ring. He's faced and or beaten nine world champions and has been a professional fighter with a crowd-pleasing style for nearly 16 years. He's even been good enough to have notched victories over both Antonio Tarver and Roy Jones, Jr.

But when the big fights are put together behind the closed doors of boardrooms by the promoters and the television networks, Glen Johnson is avoided by the 'names' in his division as though he were a contagious leper. [details]

I wanna see the Dawson rematch, but he's gotta do the Tarver rematch so he gets a pass for now, tho i doubt he'll have the balls to take Glen on again regardless. I just hope Glen can get anotha big fight before he turns old.

Johnson is a whiny cry baby. He didn't beat Dawson, he came on strong at the end of the fight but no way did he do enough to win the fight. Again, the JUDGES decided the fight, not Johnson or the fans. He's had his chances to win belts and has not done so, being a whiny bumbo klaat does not earn you a title shot.

The rematch between Tarver and Dawson is not only a slap in the face of Glen Johnson, but a slap in the face of boxing and the boxing fan.If Dawson, who is an impressive fighter, wants to be considered the best in the world, then he needs to take risks in his career.Fighting Tarver is not taking a risk.Where black fighters once dominated this beautiful sport, now they are second to hispanic and european fighters. This is one of the primary reasons why.Hispanic and european fighters have been fighting the more competitive and dramatic fights. Now here is the perfect opportunity for a young black fighter to display his skills (and more importantly his heart) against a rugged veteran who's going to make him dig deep for a victory. But what does he chose? A meaningless fight with a shot Tarver that will prove nothing. And he wonders why Calzaghe doesn't want to fight him.Dominating a shot fighter does not raise your markability. So, why would Calzaghe take the risk? It financially doesn't make sense.Beating a strong willed former champ that keeps on coming at him in a crowd pleasing shootout would definitely put him on another level. Then, I bet my little paycheck that Calzaghe comes calling.Hey Dawson, fire your manager quick, because you will never make those millions or go down as one of the greats by walking down this path.20 years from now, who will remember you? Competitive hard fought fights make you legendary, not dominating performances over has-beens.
