By Cliff Rold - At the end of 2007, this scribe authored a piece here at BoxingScene asking what had gone wrong with the Light Heavyweights. They were, one year ago, simply dreadful beyond a bout between Chad Johson and Tomasz Adamek early in the year. The talents were there; the fights weren’t. [details]

It was good to see lt. heavys be a big deal again in 2008 and let's hope 2009 brings more of the same. Joe C's victory over Jones looked good on paper but Jones has been shot for years. His win over Hopkins, however was big, even if Hopkins isn't in his prime. Had Dawson convincingly beaten Glenn Johnson, I might have argued that Dawson should be fighter of the year in the division, but he didn't. And finally, I would be remiss if I didn't give props to Argentina's Hugo Garay who came back after twice being screwed in Europe against Erdei to win the WBA title and then convincingly whip home-town hotshot Juergen Braehmer in Germany. Winning a wide decision against a favored son in Germany isn't easy, and he deserves a tip of the hat for doing just that.Comment
