2009 And Beyond – All We Need Are Standards

By Jake Donovan - This is normally the time of the year when boxing fans reflect on the season that was, compiling “best of” lists and deciding how the past dozen months collectively measure up against its predecessors.

There was no shortage of highs and lows in 2008, though for the second time in three years, the lows managed to overshadow the highs. Two years ago, little among the best that the sport had to offer could be found within America’s borders, which of course was followed up with promises from the sport’s super powers that sweeping change was on its way. We need less PPV, and more unifications to establish linear champs next year.

Way too many sanctioning bodies and belts are slowly killing the sport..it's saddening on 2 per division with the possibility to unify should be allowed..but all this alphabet, interim, ring BS..is getting out of hand..

Everyone is becoming a champ now!.

the article doesn't EVEN match the title.

              idiot.

what boxing needs are COMPETENT JUDGES,
              who are held accountable.....

              who agrees with me ?

I think boxing should add a MEGA-CARD, at least once a year. Three headlining-type fights all on the same night. The Super Bowl of Boxing. It would capture Mainstream media attention for a week or so and the door to more casual fans. I think Oscar could leave a truly wonderful imprint on the spport by making this a reality. Other promoters are too set in their penny-wise, pound-foolish methods.
