They had to, they were marketed by HBO real early in their careers and the network didn't let them fight tomatoes fight after fight.

In P.will's case, like Kelly Pavlik, he had to fight for years to get recognition. He fought who he could whenever he could. He doesn't have the high profile amateur career so naturally you have to fight scrubs BUT keep winning in order to get to the top. Guys like Cotto or Jermain Taylor (both having their fights televised by HBO real early) can get a shot at a title after 20 something fights while guys like Pavlik and Williams had to get in more then 30 wins to get theirs.

Williams is learning on the job... like Chavez Jr., except, you know, he's progressing.
I understand your point. I was just educating the guy!!!!!!!

          So...

Apparently a guy who throws over a hundred punches a round, showed a good body punching game on Saturday, has the power to score first round KOs and fights the best is boring?

I wonder what the hell is exciting about the sport...

He's a strong puncher but a guy his size should have lights out punching ability which he doesn't. Tommy Hearns was a tall welterweight like Williams who sat down on his punch's and made people forget that he had no personality. While williams had great body work on saturday he in no way completly destroyed V phillips with anyone punch either. Seriously what was so exciting about williams on saturday? He landed a million punches and really didn't do huge damage. Tell me how does a 6'2 Welterweight with above average punching power capture the hearts and minds of America??

I guess he's going to suffer from Jones syndrome, where he can't draw a crowd, because the majority of his fights are not competitive enough.

It's a real tall order to expect a WW to KO a JMW with one punch in his first assignment at that weight agaisnt a guy who just won a world title in his last fight.

Ugh he didn't have many one punch knockouts even in the welterweight division and most of his KO's weren't any diffrent than his TKO win over Phillips.

Plus you really can't compare Williams to Chavez JR because Junior is 22 ****ing years old. Are you gonna tell me that Williams was a great fighter at 22 years old? He has 5 years on Chavez JR so please shut up.

If Williams keeps fighting top guys, even if not the very top, his fan base will expand and so will the demand for him in a big fight.

And about the same amount of fights in the ring.

I notice there was this guy that is from the same place as Chavez Jr., named Erik Morales, and he won a world title when he was 21.

Are you one of the many who believes in the GREATNESS of the GREAT Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.?

And what weight class was Morales in? Junior Featherweight? Look at the 154 pound weight class over the last 15 years and tell me how many 22 year old champions that weight class has had. Vargas was the exception since he had a massive amature background but when he stepped up against a more mature oposition what happened? It ruined him plus he was always a fat ass to begin with. The number one rated Super Welter is 39 years old for christ sake. I'm not trying to call this kid the second coming at all but even Manny P the Pound for Pound King was getting knocked out by Asian Tomato Cans when he was 22. Let the kid mature first especially since he's finding out now that his style is that of a boxer and not face first brawler like his dad.

How ironic is it that Daniel Zaragoza was 39 when Morales beat him...

By the way, JMW sucks man, it's among the worst in boxing right now.
