David Haye: "If Ricky Hatton Loses, He Should Retire"

Heavyweight conteder David Haye has told his countryman Ricky Hatton to consider retirement if he is not able to beat Paulie Malignaggi on Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. He says if Maliganggi wins, there is not point in Hatton continuing to fight. [details]

i would have to agree, im a big fan of haye, malignaggi and ricky, but i think hatton could still handle a few of the contenders when paulie beats him, paulie to win but ricky has a couple more fights in him afterwards

I've been becoming a fan of Haye but he's getting too big for his boots and needs to STFU.

Why would Hatton care what he thinks right now, whose he to say he should retire. He did it with Calzaghe aswell, he's in no position to judge.

Haye seems to have strong opinions about retiring young, he criticises a lot whom haven't. Saw him in an interview recently saying as much.

Doesn't mean everyone has the same mental and physical states though. Also, it'll be his un doing. He's facing the best HW next year with a weak chin. Sounds about fair if some say Calzaghe, Hatton, RJJ, Hopkins, Toney, Holyfield all did a joint press conference calling for him to retire, should he lose.

****** statement David, makes you look like a prick.

i don't think so, he could very well be right, but i think depending on the loss to paulie, if its a 12 round schooling or a tko/ko, then haye is right, but if it is close then i still have some faith in ricky to beat some contenders and stay near the top of the division

haye's statement could be spot on though...

I disagree, Hatton shouldn't retire because he was never great to begin with. He is a club-fighter, and I guess the brits love him. So once Paulie beats him, he probably shouldn't retire but just fight lesser quality opponents and still cash in.

People bring up the kosta and castillo fights, but magically forget that Hatton held in those fights. And I mean excessive holding, and some brits says Paulie does as much holding? Paulie might have held but no wheres near as many times as Hatton does. It's like hattons style to do that ****. He wraps one of his arms around his opponents arms to tie them up. Usually going after the stronger arm so he ties up the right arm on orthodox fighters

First he said, "Joe Calzaghe should retire immediately."
Then he said, "Dawson is not ready for Calzaghe."
              And now this.
Seriously, when this this guy become the spokesperson for all of british boxing. Heres a better quote, "If either of the Klit brothers KO me I should retire."

He said the same thing about himself, that he is going to retire if he cant get past Monte Barret.
