Joe Calzaghe Likely Heading To Golden Boy Promotions

As reported several times in the past on BoxingScene.com, unbeaten light heavyweight Joe Calzaghe (46-0, 32KOs) is likely heading to Golden Boy Promotions. There is talk that Calzaghe may stage one last fight at the Millennium Stadium next summer. He recently created his own promotional company, Joe Calzaghe Promotions, and to compete with some of the other promotional companies created by other UK stars like Ricky Hatton and David Haye - he needs to link up with a bridge to America and views Golden Boy as that bridge. Both Hatton and Haye have promotional deals with Golden Boy. [details]

I really like the idea of boxers from all over the world getting involved in promoting fights and fighters from their region, I think this will help boxing bigtime in the future when young boxers are involved with Ex-fighters who they look up too.

This is one of the pros of Golden Boy Promotions

        DLH
        Hatton
        Hopkins
        Mosley
JMM - He will probably take up Golden Boy Mexico since Barrera went to King
        Calzaghe

^^^^^ Lol. GBP doesn't just promote him, he is a part of promotions that don't involve him as a fighter. (Wakes up, wipes the crust out of his eyes, takes a deep sigh of satisfaction) Nothing like waking up to some good old hipocresy.

I don't. One of the positives of former fighters turned promoters is that they can obviously relate with the fighter's up and downs. But again, when $$$ is involved and you have 20 other promoters, it's all gonna end the same way.

If I had it my way, I would only have one boxing commission that oversees the entire pro boxing landscape. Kinda like the Olympic committee, you don't have several factions. It's all under one umbrella with one common goal.

I would trust an Ex fighter with my career over a snake like King or Shaw who don't give 2 ****s about your well being, Delahoya sets up his fighters with an accountant to help manage their money and not end up broke. He has also mentioned setting up a pension plan for Golden Boy fighters. This is a step in the right direction IMO, seems like 90% of ex champions end up broke.

golden boy promotions is like life support for the old.

they should change their name to social security promotions.

What did I just say in my previous post? I said, that the good thing of a former fighter promoting fights is that he can relate to a fighter 100%, but if you have a list of fighters turned promoters, what do you have, competing promotional firms? it ends up the same way, a f**kin' business. And what do businesses do, to make sure that they're on top of other businesses.

It means, if GBP has to protect its fighter from Joe Calzaghe's fighter, then were back to what's happening now. In this case, I don't mind seeing a "monopoly" ala UF*.
