Calzaghe disposed of Roy Jones on Saturday in their light heavyweight bout. The victory means Calzaghe remains undefeated (46-0) and will go down in history as the greatest Welsh boxer of all time.
Calzaghe's last two wins came against legends Jones and Bernard Hopkins. Not only was his bout against Hopkins not impressive, but the split-decision victory could have easily gone in Hopkins' favor.
Joe Calzaghe was impressive against Roy Jones on Saturday night.
So after years of building a resume against lackluster competition, Calzaghe added two victories that are impressive in name only. Jones is over the hill (he lost four of his last seven fights) and Hopkins, even at 43, won his fight against Calzaghe, according to the opinion of several experts.
Now Calzaghe has talked about retiring. He wants to go out on top and undefeated. If he does, it would only prove a point middleweight champ Kelly Pavlik has often claimed --- that Calzaghe does not want to fight him. We know Pavlik did not look his best against Hopkins last month, but we learned Pavlik should have postponed the bout because of health issues.
A healthy Pavlik would not have any problems with the light tapping Calzaghe. And so far, Calzaghe does not want to take the risk in the ring. But he has no problem with verbal jabs.
This is a serious article...lol
