No jabs, rarely keeps his gloves up. He's still relying on his reflex to avoid punches. He rarely ducks punches. He flinches away. That's fine...but he can't always do that especially when he's slower nowadays. His hands are still too low. He's relying on his quickness to connect and doesn't bother trying to hide his right cross with jabs.
Honestly, though, he still would not have beaten Joe Calzaghe last weekend.

At first glance of Roy, it seems he had a lot of weaknesses. But he used his amazing natural abilities to create an "invisible defense" to cover those weaknesses. It's a very risky thing to try but he was the master of it.

And the thing is, he would have still been learning. He was such a smart fighter, he'd adjust to being old, and he'd do it better than anyone not named B-Hop.

Mayweather definitely uses the fundamentals of boxing. He doesn't jab that much but he's so accurate anyway that he'll sneak in a jab or move somewhere to disrupt his opponent's timing. He's quick and has the fundamentals. He and Ray Leonard were blessed with these twitch muscles and were fundamentally trained that they'll keep their brain cells intact.
Ali should have retired after his third fight with Frazier.
