I think he could have stopped Joe, in his prime. His speed was so off, yet in the early rounds it was still greater than Joe's.

Yeah, I can see why people dislike Calzaghe. What can I say? The guy was born in the same hospital as me and out of the 5-6 fighters I liked when I first started watching boxing, he is the only one still around.

But...I can see why he gets criticism.

Calzaghe gives Toney, Hopkins, and Jones a handful even when all are at their best. His style is ridiculous at times, but effective.

To the people who honestly think Roy, in his prime would have lost to Joe. Have you seen any of Jones fights in his prime? Like another poster said. The rest of the fight would have been a duplicate of the first round.

Why couldn't the rest of the fight be like rounds 2-12 though?

Roy cant put combos together anymore it's clear. Even then, I think Joe's rhythem would have really made Roy have to work. I dont want to get carried away and disrespect Roy just to counter the criticism for Joe, ya know?

This was a depressing fight. I am glad that I didn't buy it... I'm still not a Calzaghe fan. His record is still built on the backs of UK bums and old men. It sickens me that Roy Jones's name is now added to this list, but with his name, there should be an *.
Calzaghe is nowhere near the legend status of RJJ. And the win tonight doesn't mean jack **** because he didn't fight the real RJJ, the way boxing fans remember him.

got to disagree. roy struggled and was dropped by light hitting southpaw lou del valle who isnt half as skilled as calzache. not saying jones would have lost back then but he surely would have had a tough time. he had trouble with good southpaws. close to call
