Both Camps are Optimistic about The "Super" Fight

By Dave Sholler - Enzo Calzaghe finds himself in an interesting situation. When he steps foot inside Madison Square Garden on Saturday night, he’ll be cornering one of the best fighters of the past decade. Trainer of the sport’s reining Ring Magazine light heavyweight champion, the Welshman will travel to the United States to witness his fighter face future Hall of Famer Roy Jones Jr.

Unlike other fights though, this one is special for Enzo. The fighter who will be facing Jones Jr. is not just an ordinary champion. It’s his son, Joe Calzaghe.

“Joe is my son first and a great fighter second,” Enzo Calzaghe said during a press conference Wednesday. “I am proud to be his trainer. The road has been very long. Twenty-five years of being a pain in the (butt) to Joe. I remember the first fight and now we are going to Madison Square Garden.” [details]

The Roy that steps into the ring is going to shock Calzaghe. First with his speed and then with his ring savvy and finally his power will take Joe out by the 8th.

Joe will not be stopped on Saturday. He may win by TKO, or either win or lose on the cards.

My only concern is he may lose a decision on the scorecards to some incompetent and/or biased New York area judges like Eugenia Williams, Julie Lederman or Al Bennett.

I have a feeling this is going to be the " SUPER BORING " fight with a bunch of holding and running and slapping. Then at the post fight conference both guys will say they felt they won.

                Prediction

I predict a long and boring not to mention aggression-less fight with Calzaghe coming out on top of a UD. Like many others I am holding onto the hope that just a small part of the old Roy shows up but I know in reality that's probably not going to happen.

Roy's gun shy and plays it safe these days. I'm sure age has taken somethings away from him but Roy still has much of the same skills he used to display...it's his mindset and confidence that are gone.

I see lots of powerless flurries from Joe throughout the fight with just a few flashes of greatness from Roy. I don't think there will even be a knockdown in this fight. This one's had 12 rounds written all over it since the beginning.
