Wilder Eliminated in 7-1 Loss To Russo in Olympic Semifinals

By Jake Donovan - The 2008 US Olympic boxing squad ends its run with a whimper, as 6'7" heavyweight Deontay Wilder was eliminated in his 7-1 loss to Italy's Clemente Russo in the semi-finals. Wilder leaves with Team USA's lone medal, the nation's worst Olympic boxing showing since 1948. [details]

Deontay Wilder is what's right about amateur boxing. He was very inexperienced yet gave his best against seasoned (sometimes 30 year old) amateurs, who had been in the game a long time.
He's a humble southern gentleman and has a good story too.

Dan Campbell = worst trainer EVER. Makes Hatton's trainer look good.

Wilder would throw one punch, miss, then hold. It's sad if he's the best American amateur boxer - he seemed unable to even throw a two-punch combination.
