Sergio Martinez To Face Joel Julio on Oct. 4 on HBO?

There seems to be talk of a possible bout between Sergio Martinez and Joel Julio for the WBC interim-junior middleweight title in the headline bout of HBO's Boxing After Dark telecast on October 4. [details]

That'd be a good first look at Sergio Martinez, though I question the wisdom of taking such a dangerous fight while you await your mandatory shot at the WBC belt.

ahh La Maravilla Martinez, i seen him fight in Connecticut. Good fighter, fast, sharp, solid boxing skills. When he had his opponent on the ropes he threw some nice combos. He appeared very vulnerable to right hands. Julio has a good right hand. Good fight, good matchup it should be interesting. Julio still has a fight next week though against Varela who is no joke so he needs to stay focused on the task at hand.

im leaning towards Julio but Martinez is by no means an easy fight. His only loss is to Margarito a long time ago and he gave Margarito a hell of a fight.

Good fight but I'm not sure a smart decision by Martinez at this point. Martinez should have gotten a title shot about a year ago since he won a title elimination fight in April of 2007. His big wins in the U.K. happened four and five years ago. He's wasted a potentially really good career waiting around for a title shot that never happened and now that he's a mandatory at 33, he'll screw up his chance if he loses to Julio
