Toney TKOs Rahman!

Heavyweight James "Lights Out" Toney (71-6-3, 44 KOs) scored a controversial third round TKO over Hasim "Rock" Rahman (45-7-3, 36 KOs) in their "Last Chance" clash on Wednesday night at the Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, CA. An accidental head butt in round three cut Rahman over the left eye and in the corner after the round, Rahman said he couldn't see. The bout was then stopped by referee Ray Corona on the advice of ring doctor Paul Wallace. It was originally thought the result would be a no decision, but officials ruled that Rahman had indicated he couldn't see before the cut was even examined, so a TKO was ruled. "This is the worst damn decision period," said Rahman after the fight. The Rahman camp plans to appeal.Comment

I seen the fight...for those who dont know it was originally going to be a NC because there was confusion that the doctor stopped the fight because the cut (from a headbutt) was too bad...
but after the confusion was sorted out it seems as if rahman said he could see out of his eye (because of the cut from the headbutt) and the doctor advised the ref that if rahman says he cant see out of his eye its best to stop it. and the ref stopped it.
HOWEVER in my opinion i dont think the cut was too bad to let the fight go one more round (at the very least) to allow it to go to the scorecards...infact the cut wasnt that bad really...i personally would have let the fight continue (if rahman didnt complain about vision)...
so basically it was stopped because rahman couldnt see out of the eye.
it sounds like he was whining a little bit and its good they allowed toney to get the win...because that cut was nothing to stop the fight about in my opinion...Comment

Rahman didn't say that he wasn't going to fight, he said he couldn't see because of the blood, and in any case IT WAS THE DOCTOR who stopped it because he ruled that the cut was too bad. It makes no difference WHY he came to that decision, it was HIS decision. I'm sure if Rahman thought that it would cost him the fight, when nearly the whole fight was still to come, he'd have continued. To me this says N.C.
It looks as if Rahman just got "Joe Cortez'd". the fight should be an N.C.Comment
