I don't agree with the bold. Of course Cotto will be mentioned as a fighter PBF should have fought no doubt about it. But I feel you are giving Cotto too much power and credit over full span of PBF's career. I think Cotto will be looked at the same way Aaron Pryor is looked at in the career of Sugar Ray Leonard. Which of course is they are fights that should have and could have happened but didn't but that still doesn't take away that much from each fighters whole career of work. Also so you don't assume anything I am not saying PBF's resume is better that Sugar Ray Leonard's. I am just giving my opinion on how I feel Cotto will be looked at in regards to PBF.
Many ATG's have retired in there Prime! Not just PBF.

who said anything about floyd being all time great?Barry Sanders retired at 30years old. He was also within one seasons striking distance from beating Walter Paytons all time career rushing yards. Barry stated that he no longer had "the competitive spirit".
Jim Brown retired without ever playing a game past 29years old. The year he retired he was named MVP of the Entire NFL. He was breaking records and setting new ones with every game he played.
Michael Jordan also retired at age 30years old from basketball due to loss of desire. This is after winning 3 straight championships and a NBA Finals MVP award.
Athletes, the top ones compete for more than just a check or records. Its a competitive spirit that allows them to compete at there SUPER ELITE Level. They could've all set records and cashed huge checks by going on but all decided that loss of spirit/desire wouldn't allow them to compete as they once had.
We dont call Barry Sanders, Jim Brown or Michael Jordan cowards. We don't accuse them of being scared of losing so why are we doing it to PBF. He could've cashed a huge check against DLH which most feel he would've won comfortably. But like the other great athletes he chose to bow out when his spirit/desire for the sport vanished. Why are we blaming him for that?
he's great this era. but all time?Comment

those are all from other sports
in boxing is unacceptable to retire with less than 40 fights and claim yourself an atgComment

Get back to me when those athletes were able to create their own schedules against opponents they chose. Imagine Jordans Bulls refusing to play Portland in the finals because they weren't a ratings boosting team.

floyd has been champ at 130 , 135 , 140 , 147 and 154.Barry Sanders retired at 30years old. He was also within one seasons striking distance from beating Walter Paytons all time career rushing yards. Barry stated that he no longer had "the competitive spirit".

look at his resume. it's good but all time great?
is he the greatest 130 lber ever? better than arguello? azumah?
is he the greatest 135 lber ever? better than duran? benny? esteban?
is he the greatest 140 lber ever? better than chavez? pryor?
let's not even bother talking about his resume at 147 and 154. in fact...... shouldn't have even bothered mentioning his career at 140 either.
we throw around all time great way too much.
don't even bother mentioning his titles in 5 divisions. i think armstrongs campaign from 126-160 is more impressive. and is it really that hard to win titles in 5 divisions nowadays with all the super/junior weight classes and all different orgs? if manny beats diaz for the wbc belt he'll be a champ in 5 divisions too. is he an atg? how about oscar and his titles at from 130 to 160 if you count the wbo belt? oscar is very good but is he all time great?
floyd is a great fighter. he is one of the most skilled fighters ever.
greatness , however , is based on your legacy and resume. floyd's resume is very good not great.
certainly not all time great.Comment

Its hard to quantify era vs era but like you said he is one of the greats of his era. Does that not earn him at least some conisderation of ATG. Not neccesarily even the top 50 but he does deserve some consideration.
For instance when a top 25 LW or SFW list are made will he not be in them?Comment

i guess it depends on your view of all time great. Its hard to quantify era vs era but like you said he is one of the greats of his era. Does that not earn him at least some conisderation of ATG. Not neccesarily even the top 50 but he does deserve some consideration.

see me i judge great as dominating in your era. floyd's resume has a few holes but i still consider it domintating his era.
i consider all time great as in all time in that division or around that division.
for example most people argue that either joe louis or muhammad ali is the greatest heavyweight ever. so i can call ali or joe all time great.
can you really argue that floyd was the greatest lightweight or junior lightweight ever?
not really. unless you're basing it on skills because his resume is not that great. obviously head to head if they fight he can be competitive with anybody but you don't judge guys on head to head. you judge by resume.Comment

Both of those guys did it because they simply felt like it. Barry Sanders wasnt much of a talker, but would have been the GOAT runningback WITH the rushing record if he hasnt retired. Jim Brown did what he did after football and chose to act. Runningback is one of the most abusive positions in any sport, they left when they decided getting your ass knocked off every other week wasnt really that cool no more.
People bring up the point of how Brown/Sanders "retired" but didint have to "overcome the biggest challange of their careers" but you could easily say "sanders quit on his team when they could have used him as an asset" "brown left to do movies instead of helping his team further their profile by continuing to play at a high level"
you guys swear up and down miguel cotto is the sole reason floyd just wants to quit boxing, when dude has been taking punches to the face his whole life. Yall are ****ing ******. Yes, im talking to you, yall are ****ing ******.Comment
