Andre Ward Makes a Statement Against Jerson Ravelo

By Cliff Rold - American Boxing’s only Olympic Gold Medalist over the last decade, 2004 to be exact, may finally be ready to start looking for gold in the paid ranks. Over eight rounds on Friday night at the Royal Watler Cruise Terminal in Georgetown of the Cayman Islands, 24-year old Super Middleweight Andre Ward (16-0, 11 KO) of Oakland, California completely took apart 30-year old New Jersey-based Dominican, and 2000 Olympian, Jerson Ravelo (18-3, 12 KO) in relatively easy fashion. Whether he’s ready to take apart an excellent pool of Super Middleweight contenders remains to be seen, but the question is getting more realistic all the time.

Looked pretty good tonight against Ravelo, but Ravelo really wasn't putting up much of a fight. I think a fight with Allen Green would make sense and be competitive. Plus for Green since he doesn't want to fight on ESPN anymore I bet that fight would either be on Showtime or HBO.

A fight with Allen Green makes no sense. Allen Green is an experience power puncher who is a bigger guy. Could he even make 154? Ward needs to sharpen his defense before he gets in with someone with serious power.

As far as I know they both fight at SMW. Allen Green beat Rubin Williams in a 12 round decision and Ward knocked him out in 7. Plus both guys have KO'ed Ravelo and I know the fight has been mentioned before. Maybe a fight or two more for Ward and then Allen Green, but I would like to see them meet up at some point.
