Good Friday: Heavyweight Ahunanya Upsets Alonzo Butler

By Cliff Rold - Those waiting for a rebirth of cool in the Heavyweight division saw little hoper for that on Friday night. That doesn’t mean they saw a bad scrap as 36-year old Friday Ahunanya (24-5-3, 13 KO) of Nigeria scored a mild upset over previously undefeated 28-year old Alonzo Butler (26-1-1, 19 KO) of Knoxville, Tennessee at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas.

to be honest, Friday looked like garbage in a bottle of Worchester sauce. I guess that style of throwing 30 punches a round works against guys with padded records though.

C'mon Blackirish, give Ahunyana credit. That's the second undefeated young fighter in a row he's beaten.

Friday is durable and a warrior. I've heard from insiders that he's always willing to fight anybody.

oh, I definately give the guy credit. he doesnt come to lie down or be a stepping stone, and I cant really say he runs either, even if hes a fairly inactive fighter.
overall the fight in general was kind of unimpressive though, in terms of skill and athleticism

thats what Ive liked about Friday Night Fights lately. lots of upsets, and all because other guys dont just show up to get a payday, they come and try to win.
on a side note, Columbians seem to be owning of FNFs. tons of upset knockouts

Just another PROSPECT in general shot down! It seems every single Wed and Fri night fights the prospect loses on the card loses. This has been the trend for several months now

Butler fights with his hands down, any decent heavy would rock him.. Butler showed alot of heart though.. his eye was a mess, the same eye he had a detached retina in.. Friday had good conditioning his punches were sharp in the final seconds.. Butler had also been inacive for over a year

Knew this would happen. I've never been impressed with Butler.

PS. I cringe every time I look at that avatar. Tony Thompson is one goofy looking man.

This wasn't a bad fight really. Both guys were sloppy. Even though Butler got his ass beat, he kept trying. He sure is limited though.

Friday is the undefeated fighter's spoiler. This is the 5th time he's beaten an undefeated guy. He got Shane Cameron his first loss in his last fight.
