A fight with the winner of the Cotto/Margo bout wouldnt be able to be made any sooner than December 2008 anyway.

The reason Floyd has retired is because he didnt have his way at the negotiating table with Oscar. Floyd stands 5'7, but his ego is 10ft tall. He really thinks that the 2.4mil ppv's him and Oscar did last year was his own doing! He's even said it himself. Everyone here knows that Oscar can pull in 1mil+ ppv's fighting pretty much any other high profile fighter in the sport. Can Floyd? I dont think so. Floyd feels that because he was the winner of thier first bout, that he has the right to the larger chunk of the purse. While that might sound right, everyone knows that's not how it works in this business. Oscar is still the biggest draw in the sport, and Floyd's ego would'nt let him accept the smaller piece of the pie for the rematch. Like i've said several times before, he overvalues himself as an entertainer.

On top of that, the rematch was drawing VERY negative outcry from the boxing community. Outside of the DIEHARD Oscar and Floyd fans, NOBODY wanted to see this rematch. Close or not, there was nothing in thier first fight that warranted the desire to see a rematch. Plain and simple. So i think the combination of not wanting to take a back seat to Oscar AGAIN, and the negative press this fight was receiving, is the reason why Floyd decided to TEMPORARILY retire AGAIN. His lifestyle is too expensive for him to walk away from 15-20mil paydays. UNFORTUNATELY, he will be back. If its to face the winner of Cotto/Marg, then i wont mind, but if he returns to take meaningless fights/rematches, then i'd prefer he stay the **** out the game. I watch boxing to see competitive and entertaining fights. I can give 2 flying ****s how much a fighter makes. To some Floyd fans, that seems to be thier main concern.
I hear you Bro, that sounds soooooo logical. It's why there never was a Trindad/De La Hoya II, Oscar wanted it at 70/30. Trindad said "F" that!

Great post deevel, and this was my idea about Floy'ds retirement as well. A sneaky way out of the rematch. Hopefully some good comes out of this and he takes a fight with a real contender?

This is what Floyds probly thinking.

        Cotto or Marg beats Oscar.

That winner gets RIDICOLOUS life changing exposure.

A fight with Floyd vs. Cotto/Marg gets hyped.

Floyd sees the dollars in the fight now that Oscar helped out.

Guess who promotes the fight..yep you guessed it....

        Golden Boy.

I realize whats going on now.

Probably the best post yet concerning Mayweather's retirement.

Another thread with cotto fans siding with cotto, and floyd fans siding with floyd. The only false statement that i can never get with is that floyd is S-C-A-R-E-D of him or margs. This just kills it for me when discussing these 2 fighters. Because if this fight were made, when asked, how is he going to attack floyd, you cotto fans would probably say he would break floyd down lol. That would be a comical analysis. You can ride that scared thingy into the ground, but deep down, as floyd said, he can't beat floyd.

                Good post

Cotto and Marge are a counterpunchers wet dream..you can't miss em'..

                Scared of them for what?

                Be for ****in real..

If Floyd retired for good it sure as hell wasn't out of fear of that trash.

Back when EVERYBODY was afraid to fight Shane..Floyd was the lone voice begging to fight him.
