Urbano Antillon's Violent Rise to Contention

By Jake Donovan - Not much was said about, or thought of, California-based junior lightweight Urbano Antillon around this time last year. Sure, he boasted an impressive record. But a close split decision win over journeyman Fernando Trejo followed by a 2006 campaign mostly spent rehabbing numerous injuries wasn't exactly the formula for an everlasting impression.

Fast forward to today – five wins later, all by knockout, including three straight televised appearances. He's no longer one of boxing's best-kept secrets. The word is out, as Urbano Antillon (22-0, 15KO) violently charges toward contender status.

Sometimes, exposure can be a ***** like that.

The boxing world will get another look at Antillon tonight, as he headlines Telefutura's Solo Boxeo card (Friday, 8PM ET/PT, Sovereign Performing Arts Center, Reading, PA). The latest victim - um, opponent, is Jose Leonardo Cruz, but make no mistake about it; the question isn't if Antillion can win, but how fast he can send home the crowd – and his opponent. [details]

Antillon will be in line to fight the Soto-Lorenzo winner.
That's ****in bull****. Soto deserves more respect then that. Urbano walk's straight through Soto within 5 rounds. And Soto would actually take that fight too, they probably know he'd take it too.

Soto should be gettin Gamboa soon, and Antillon should be gettin Katsidis if Casa/Campbell are tied up. Even Amir Khan vs Urbano should happen sometime in the future. But Antillon vs Soto? ****in kiddin me?

Thats straight bull****, what dumb **** promoter actually came up with that dumb **** anyways?

lol You don't "test fighters" by puttin them in there with smaller guys, you corny ****in wide-head.

Katsidis would be a "test" for him. A big strong active body like Mike's would be a good gauge of what Antillons capable of. Even someone like Casamayor would be a test for him, especially since Casa is half of what he use to be right now. Edner Cherry and Zahir Raheem would be good for him too. But baiting smaller guys to come up is just bull****.

Soto & Valero are in the same weight class as Urbano.
