Is Jermain Taylor the R/L equivalent of Mason Dixon?

LoL, Dixon, but for real. It's like Taylor needed a war to sorta redeem himself, and it wasn't until Pavlik came along, that he could prove himself. Even though he lost where Dixon won(LoL), I still think it redeemed Taylor abit where everyone was losing faith in him due to his competition and the way he was winning. Taylor like Dixon, needed someone that could redeem his qualities and make people see a side of Taylor they've never seen before. Baptism Under Fire baby!

In a ridiculous sense, Lol. Yeah. He just needs to redeem himself, entirely. If he beat Lacy nicely and was then able to beat a Miranda or Kessler. Would you think about less of him? I would think more of him then when he was a defending UNDISPUTED middleweight champion. And he DID face good opposition. Undersized, but still good.

    He's what boxing needs.

Kind of a funny topic, but I understand what you mean, and I'd say yes. He got credit when he beat Hopkins and took on Winky, but the credit wasn't for his performances, just because he was fighting the best. After some bad performances he looked great both times against Pavlik. So I'd say that more so than any other fighter in boxing, he is like Mason Dixon. :P

I always hated Taylor until he lost to Pavlik (who I was going for). After he lost, and because of the way he fought, I found respect for him and hope he does big things at 168. So yeah

Same. This is my exact same feeling I had going in and after the fight. I hated Taylor and his victories. They were all sloppy regardless of him winning and what people said. Then he loses to Pavlik but puts on a hell of a showing and even better in the rematch, and I've gained a lot more respect for him. I think moreso because he didn't make many excuses for his loss and took it like a man.

No, according to the storyline Mason Dixon had cleaned out the heavies with a string of boringly one-sided fights which led to people questioning the ability of all of his opponents instead of putting it down to Mason's. The idea was that he needed a war to show people that he was capable of winning tough fights instead of just fighting guys he totally outclassed.

Taylor on the other hand followed his unconvincing wins over Hopkins with a string of unconvincing wins against smaller guys and an unconvincing draw against Winky Wright before getting KTFOd by the first real contender to arrive on the scene.

If anyone is the real life Mason Dixon it's Mayweather.

Bingo. I didn't mind him fighting Ouma and Spinks, but he just frustrating to watch because you knew he had potential and was just an idiot in the ring.

Looking back though, he had an incredible run at Middleweight.

                  Wins over:
                  William Joppy
                  Alex Buenma
                  Bernard Hopkins twice*
Kassim Ouma (retired Ouma it seemed like)
                  Cory Spinks

and a draw over Winky Wright*.

The * are ofcourse controversial and I felt he lost the Bernard fights and got a draw with Winky.
