Shobox Meets Boxing After Dark Meets Shobox

By Jake Donovan - Picture this: SHOWTIME and HBO are both featuring cards on their more modest-budgeted series, Shobox and Boxing After Dark, respectively.

One card features an active titlist who, going in, is regarded as the top threat to a linear champion whose last four fights were featured on HBO or its PPV arm. The co-feature battle is an elimination bout between perennial top-contenders, with the winner to face yet another world champion under contract with HBO.

The other card is a tripleheader loaded with prospects, two of whom have become established players on the ShoBox circuit. All three rising fighters are placed in competitive matches, with Gary Shaw serving as the lead promoter.

Think you have 'em pegged right? [details]

I was already excited about this weekend's fights, but reading this article just pumped me up some more. I haven't seen Gamboa so I want to see what all the fuss is about, and the other two guys are ****en bad asses who fight in incredibly entertaining styles and are matched with very credible opposition. There's no way I miss this card. Can't wait.

they need to stop pitting their cards against each other competing for fans and start planning their cards on different nights at least a week apart. they are offering fights for free, not ppv so there is no need to compete and minmize their ratings potential.

They aren't competing, the BAD event is this saturday and there is no Shobox this week, but if there were it would probably be on a friday anyway. The reason they bring it up is because BAD usually features champions or established contenders while ShoBox features rising stars and this week it seems they have switched places. In fact Angulo and Kirkland have become regulars on ShoBox. But that's how it works most of the time anyway, showtime has them until they make it for reals, then they go to HBO.

I would like see HBO do this with B.A.D a few time per year. Plus I also like what Shobox is doing. It's to mix it up every now and then.
