  • Julio Edges Past Smith in Close Encounter

By Cliff Rold - Colombian power-puncher Joel Julio picked up one of the toughest wins of his burgeoning career with a unanimous decision victory over Ishe Smith of Las Vegas, Nevada in their ten-round junior middleweight bout on Wednesday night.

Considered by most pundits and all sanctioning bodies as a legitimate top-ten contender at 154 lb, the 23-year old Julio takes a step closer to a title shot in what was a must-win bout for both combatants at the River Rock Casino in Richmond, British Columbia, Canada.

It wasn’t easy for either man. [details]

I thought Ishee did enough to win the fight. He controlled the pace, slipped most of Julio's power shots, accurately countered, and excellent movement. The only thing he didn't do was waste punches. I guess thats the most important thing to accomplish in the boxing game now. Ishee should continue to work and be aware of the work rate point system in the future.

Yeah, I thought he did enough to win the fight also. Teddy was too busy talking to keep a decent score but I don't know what the judges were watching.

Didn't see it, but sounds a little like the Powell fight where Ishe was too passive, I like Shay and hoped he'd win this, where he goes from where I dont know
