He has earned the number one p4p spot because he defeated a legend who was p4p number 4 previous to their fight sure he was old but many here on boxing scene were picking bhop to expose calzaghe
But once against good prevails and the racist hopkins got what he deserved and was outboxed in every round except the first
Calzaghe landed twice the punches that hopkins did and thats why this victory is so important he dominated hopkins like no one else ever has
For dominating a p4p boxer and being 45-0 there is no doubt in my mind Calzaghe is the true p4p king
Just b/c you don't like Mayweather & Pacman does not make Joe #1 p4p! It's all subjective anyway! I can't see why people even get upset with p4p lists anymore...

No way does he deserve to be #1 or even #2 IMO. Maybe #2 if he beat Hopkins convincingly but he won a questionable decision over a #5-6 (lower on some people's list) P4P fighter. I think somewhere between #3-5 would be more appropriate.

People shouldnt keep bringing BH age into it! He was the best light heavyweight American. JC beat him and in my opinion JC had an off night. WHy keep saying he didnt beat BH impressively? He beat Kessler impressively. He beat Lacy impressively. He beat BH. Maybe not impressively but what boxer is always impressive in every fight at JCs age. Fighting the very best the world has to offer.
He was fighting in the BH backyard in a new weight. JC is allowed an off night. Doesnt mean to say he would struggle that much against BH again.

i disagree with this completely there was nothing impressive about his performance. he was impressive for stepping up in weight but travelling to new lands to fight is done all the time and his actual performance wasnt that great

I checked the Ring ratings and Pac is still #2 while Joe C is #3, which is the way it should be. He ain't done enough to surpass Pac let alone jump to #1.

And Manfredo is one of Calzaghe's top five slaps on his record. The fact that people put JC in a top three p4p list is pathetic. If he truly is top3 is says alot about boxing.

I agree that Hopkins age shouldn't be brought into. This isn't a discussion about the legacy of each fighter, it's how they stand at this very moment and right now Hopkins is still a P4P fighter. If people want to discuss prime vs prime then save that for another topic.

I slightly disagree about his other wins being impressive, though. Kessler's a good fighter but he probably doesn't even crack the top #20 and winning 116-112 (or something close to that) is really what you would expect from someone between in the mid-section of the #1-10 rankings and not a reason to be #1-2, especially considering the accomplishments of Mayweather and Manny. The Lacy performance was impressive but I think we can all agree that he was overhyped.
