Ulli Wegner and Sven Ottke have been reunited. The former IBF/WBA super-middleweight champion will work out under the guidance of his long-time coach to shape up for the May 24 showdown with former world champion Dariusz Michalczewski. Ottke went through the first joint training session in almost four years in Kienbaum on Monday. Yep I read this on a blog somewhere, but couldn't find the German news article.
Ottke should stay retired, he was a prime example of everything bad about boxing that had threatened to ruin the sport. The last year or so of boxing has gone some way to cleanse itself of such dirt.
The only thing that gives cause for hope is that both fighters are German, so it could be that Dariusz Michalczewski's promoters have more clout with the judges than even Sven. Can you imagine the dilema for a crooked judging panel!! Which German is going to win?? It could take weeks of negotiation to come up with a set of scorecards before the fight starts.
