IS this a Record??? 256 punches thrown in ROUND 4 of AUGUSTUS-WARD

Micky Ward and Emanuel Augustus threw a combined 256 punches in a single round, round 4, in their FOTY fight. Which should have won Round of the Year IMO. It was incredible.

But is that the record for most punches thrown in a round??? Usually when one guy is able to get off 100+ punches in a round, the other guy is not. These guys traded nonstop for 3 minutes. Its gotta be a record

    Not even close.

"The record for combined total punches thrown in a round is 463. Ray Oliveira (226) W 12 Vince Phillips (237) hold that mark."

I have heard something like the whole fight broke CompuBox recods, or average per round...

        I don't think so...

The total punches in a fight record is over 3K.

Margarito threw 1,675 against Clottey in one fight.

Ward-Burton did a lot, but none of it was the most ever.

Not anymore because of the Margarito fight, but before that Burton-Ward held plenty of Compubox records. Larry Merchant talks about it during the Ward-Gatti 1 commentary

I'm sure they both REALLY wanted to win the 12th in a close fight.

By the way, Ward-Burton... neither of them held the record before Margarito... it was Zack Padilla, and it was before Ward-Burton happened.

which record??? Im just saying Ward-Burton held a few records for compubox for a few years after their fight.

idk which, i dont have Gatti-Ward on hand. But during one of those rounds, Larry brings it up. He brings up the fight twice, and mentions the records once. And says that Ward averaged something like 114 punches a round at age 35 and then mentions the records or something

they actually did, Ive seen the fight. They were both crouched over right in front of each other basically throwing punches nonstop.

to be honest, they werent very big punches, and they werent in combination...both were throwing at a pretty steady pace, but they didnt really have any power behind em.
I mean, thats to be expected when you throw THAT many...but Im just sayin.

I actually dont remember it being THAT much, but I remember them throwing a ridiculous amount of punches
