  • Arum Not Interested in Pacquiao vs. Valero

TOP Rank promoter Bob Arum isn’t interested in a possible fight between Manny Pacquiao and World Boxing Association super-featherweight champion Edwin Valero even after the Venezuelan demolished a badly overmatched Zaid Zavaleta in three brutal rounds in Cancun, Mexico on Sunday. [details]

Arum stated that “nobody wants to have a fight that can end in a fatality.”

Whose fatality is the million dollar question.

It's a shame, cuz this would be such a great style match up.

I think arum is scared... if there so confident that valero is a "nobody" why dont they put Valero-Pac man as a tune up fight at light weight before he fights david diaz. They can do it in the philipines. Thats if he gets past JMM... I wanna see PAC get knocked out!

there is no other reason for arum not to make the matchup between pac-man and valero the only thing i can say is he is acting like the person he hates, floyd mayweather jr.,somebody should ask him if that's who he is trying to portray with his answers on this subject

              Possible Pacman # Valero...Give valero a chance...

Con'on, give the boy a chance to prove he is one of the best, if not the best...We've heard so much about Evander not being fit to fight and all that...After thet Holyfield went on to defeat the main man "Iron Mike'...And Evander is still fighting...So give Valero another test and give him a chance to make it as well.Who knows, he could defeat Pacman as well...Give Valero a chance...

We all know how carefully Arum manages his fighters and builds their careers to stardom. He doesn't want to risk Valero derailing the Pacquiao train now that it has all that momentum.

although the fight would be great for us boxing fans, imo arum is right about the fight not selling well compared to other pacquio up coming match-up, the likes of pacquio-marquez, paquio-diazes, and w/ lightweight heavy on ricky hatton. unless valero proves himself he can play in usa!

Arum's remark surprises me, or, should I say, doesn't surprise me. I'm still thinking about it. Less than a year ago, when all the "hoop-la' resulted in Manny P fighthing Barrera, I read in several publications, over quite a long period (you may remember that it took months and months before Manny's next opponent was decided) that he had everything arranged for Manny to fight Valero in Macau. he said " Manny's next fight is (not even "may be", but "IS") against Valero in Macau at the huge new hotel there. That he had many contacts there, and has already discussed it with the hotel owner who's a friend of his. Surely boxing memory isn't THAT short???? Doesn't SOMEONE recall this????
