Jermain Taylor Taps Ozell Nelson as Trainer

The Arkansas ********-Gazette had a report on Jermain Taylor's recent news conference at the Arkansas Boxing Club gym in Little Rock, announcing that Ozell Nelson would replace Emanuel Steward as his trainer for the Feb. 16 rematch with Kelly Pavlik, scheduled to take place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas and televised by HBO pay-per-view. Taylor was unlucky to lose and I understand why he wants to replace Steward. After the bout, Steward was singing Pavliks praises, bigging him up and hardly praised Taylor at all. For a boxing critic thats ok, but Steward was playing the role of trainer and shouldn't have been so open about his opinions on Pavlik immediately after the bout, with Taylor sitting right next to him, it was almost humiliating, rubbing salt in the wound. Taylor will do better without, the somewhat confused, Steward in my opinion and Steward needs to learn to seperate his HBO presenter persona with his trainer persona in front of the cameras.

i think stewards general interaction with taylor just wasnt meant to ever work out under any circumstance, when a guy is giving you instructions and you simply arent listening, something is clearly not working as far as the communication between trainer and fighter is going.

Taylor should run 20 miles a day if he wants to work on his bad stamina. Jesus Christ Hopkins is like 150 and his stamina is better then Taylor.

He didn't listen to Manny. I knew way back during the Spinks fight that these two wouldn't work out in the long run.
