  • Arum Wants De La Hoya, Mayweather For Cotto

In a recent interview with BoxingScene.com's Jose Aguirre, promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank said that he would like to match WBA welterweight champion Miguel Cotto against Oscar De La Hoya or WBC titleholder Floyd Mayweather Jr. If he can't land either, there are several fighters on the list of possible opponents. Chances are that if/when Floyd wins, Arum will try to opt for a fight with Mayweather first, being that there's been some hesitation in the past of Oscar fighting Cotto. However, maybe if Oscar puts an offer on the table sometime soon, they'll work something out.

Honestly I'd much rather see Cotto fight Floyd, because if they don't fight, the next person in line at Welter for Floyd to fight is either Williams or Cintron, who I don't think are bankable opponents at THIS point in time, the winner of that fight should take another bout with Margarito, and then THAT winner gets the winner of Floyd-Cotto.

Then again, Oscar's career is dwindling fast, and if he wants a fight with Cotto in Dodger Stadium, it'd be a great way to build momentum, or go out should he lose. Then if he beats Cotto, he'll probably move on to fight Pac-Man, should he get past his next challenger (JMM, Guzman).

Damn there's so many intriguing ways to picture this division, we won't really know until December 9th.

De La Hoya's name shouldn't be included in this mix, it would piss me off to see this guy go from losing ALL his MAJOR fights including his very last fight against a much smaller, disadvantaged Floyd Mayweather Jr to just jumping straight at the next big thing in his division just because of his ****ing name, it would be a disgrace to Boxing if this guy gets another major fight without 1st getting past a lesser known worthy advisary, the **** wont be fair yo lets get Cotto-Mayweather poppin already, next in line is Cotto and if De La Hoya wants a fight he needs to step his ass in line and stop using his ****ing name to jump over *****z, they all train and fight hard so he has no right to use his rep and fame to get these good fights..

if Bob Arum WANTS Cotto to fight De La Hoya next then he is one ****ed up dude, that fight would hold no relevance, I would rather see Cotto fight Antonio Margarito who although doesn't have the same kind of BIG name he just showed against Golden Johnson that he has POP still, he didn't lose his edge and he's ready for contention, it will make for a better fight for the fans, De La Hoya needs to be a man and acknowledge he needs to prove himself, Bob Arum needs to wake the **** up and realize De La Hoya is NO target, he only amounts to dollar signs, if that is the case fight Oscar AFTER Cotto becomes the #1 guy and give Oscar time to revalidate himself, other than that Oscar needs to stay in his lane and Bob Arum needs to get a clue.. 100

Man Cotto would own Oscar. Oscar's body is just not the same after getting destroyed by Hopkins. I mean, after Hopkins finishes you, your career is over IMO.

Hopkins was still in his VERY late 30's when he KO'ed Oscar and Oscar was 8 years younger, the "head" went on to beat guys like Tarver and Winky so I don't see De La Hoya's loss to B-Hop as so horrible.. NOW if Joe faces B-Hop and losses(which I will bet all my points on that it wont happen) then thats atrocious, Hopkins would have to cheat his way which is very possible but I'm talking legal Boxing.. I feel you though and at THIS time when referring to the Bernard Hopkins of today I agree 100%.. 100

Mayweather/Cotto would be amazing to see. Both primed and unbeaten. Both have proven themselves worthy against former P4P elites. Oscar not so much. I dislike the Golden Boy, and I would agree that it is wrong of him to take fights that he doesn't deserve. If Floyd beats Charles Lee Ray, the only fight to be made is Mayweather/Cotto.

That's not true. DLH came back to beat Mayorga and was competitive against Mayweather. Hopkins hit DLH with a good body shot, he didn't destroy him. Mayweathers win over Gatti was an example of someone getting destroyed.
Don't get me wrong I don't like DLH, but he didn't get destroyed.

Cotto/Mayweather needs to happen, there are no excuses Mayweather could make for not pursuing this fight. Cotto draws fans, so there's no money problem and Cotto is #2 in the WW division. I think Cotto will take the win and is probably the most dangerous opponent for Mayweather right now.

I hope for Cotto's sake he takes the mayweather fight but i hope he doesnt fight the same way he did against Mosley, Cotto's best bet would be to fight De la hoya for more money and less risk.
