    Ponce De Leon-Penalosa Rematch in Manila?

    GOLDEN Boy Promotions’ Oscar de la Hoya said they are working out details of a rematch between World Boxing Organization bantamweight champion Gerry Peñalosa and WBO super bantamweight champion Daniel Ponce de Leon to be staged in the Philippines next year. [details]

    I'd much rather see this on Dec. 8th! Why is Penalosa waiting 'till Feb. or March? They both fought on the same day, and Ponce de Leon even fought once more since then...and he's willing to fight in December. Why wait when you could fight on a huge PPV event?

      Haha. No way will Ponce De Leon beat the G-Man in Manila. No frigging way.

        I agree. That's the problem with Boxing, waiting and waiting.

          I can't find anything in the article that says Penalosa refused a Dec. 8 schedule.

          What it says is that there is a slot in the Dec. 8 card, but a De Leon-Penalosa match won't happen on that date, quoting, Oscar De La Hoya as saying so. The reporter did not expand on that. He didn't give the reason why it cannot happen on that date.

          It went on to state that it was Penalosa who "...wants a rematch..."

          The relevant part is quoted:
          ================================================== ===
          "In an overseas telephone conversation with Viva Sports/Standard Today, De la Hoya said: “Obviously, we want to do a fight in the Philippines with Peñalosa and Ponce de Leon and we are shooting for February next year.”

          At the same time, the Golden Boy said they had an open slot in the Floyd Mayweather Jr.-Ricky Hatton fight on Dec. 8. But despite reports that the Peñalosa-Ponce de Leon rematch would be on the undercard, De la Hoya said it won’t happen and the Mexican will see action against another opponent, who has not been named yet.

          De la Hoya said he can understand why Peñalosa wants a rematch with Ponce de Leon. “It was such a great fight the first time and Gerry Peñalosa is a very experienced and well-skilled fighter.”
          =============================================

          Personally, I'd like it to happen as early as possible. If it can happen in December, great! If not, February will be fine.

              Idiot brainless? Okay, it's brainless idiot dumbass! You're telling me to go back to grade school and yet you can't even properly insult someone! Good one, I guess you got me!

              Anyway, I can understand the statement just fine. As far as I'm concerned if Ponce de Leon is willing to fight on Dec. 8th, that means the slot is available and Gerry should be stepping up! Why wait??? He's the one wanting the rematch, so why not get it done already?

                Not good for the older Peñalosa. The fight happening in Manila is the only chance he stands against PDL. Why is there even talk of fighting in Manila? The challenger should come to the home of the champ if he wants that belt. Anyway, this should knock Peñalosa into retirement.
