I think Mayweather's participation on DWTS was a waste of time

I actually watched it a few a times to see if any segments would feature:

    - Floyd being showcased in his element in a brief bio (Preferably doing that eyes closed pad work routine. It would've wowed all the sheeple watching dancing).

    - Floyd getting a little airtime to hype the fight and lead casual viewers to the Dec. 8th HBO PPV.

Other than a few blurbs the last couple of episodes on the latter, there was none of this. ****, if you blinked you would've missed that the fight with Hatton was mentioned when it was.

He ended up coming across as "just a boxer that doesn't dance too good and maybe has an attitude problem" in front of a give or take 20 million viewer audience (seriously(?) demanded that the judges scores improve on his dance routines by the end). I guess we'll see if PBF performing on DWTS meant anything when revenues are tallied after December fight weekend. I just shook my head when it was all said and done. How in the world did he forget to plug himself cross-training and his upcoming fight? That was the whole point of being there and it would've helped boxing immensely.

      Hagler,

With all due respect, this is a short-sighted viewpoint. Floyd's intention was to increase his visibility, name recognition and Q-rating.

Most boxers have a terrible Q-score and Floyd's STILL lags RJJ's, for example.

Doing DWTS was a risky move, but it has turned out to be a smart move. Are you kidding? Think about this: Floyd got exposure to 20 million viewers two times per week for a month. ESPN reported on DWTS after both the performances and the results. When is the last time you saw a boxer being discussed on ESPN months away from his fight? Floyd was on Good Morning America months away from a fight. Think about that.

And after all this exposure, Floyd has been kicked off and has seven weeks of full-time training. My concern was that Floyd would have been on the show too long. I expected him to be a better dancer/more committed. He skipped practices to train.

Anyway, he kinda got the best of both worlds on this one: He got alot of exposure, and he now has 6-7 weeks of full-time training.

Agree to disagree. There was no bigger stage than DWTS for the joe schmoe PPV pick up. He needed to plug it and showcase his skills on a segment or two during his tenure. If I'm joe schmoe that doesn't know much about Floyd and my only exposure to him over the last weeks was DWTS, he's not on my radar.

Damn he got kicked off? Well then the DWTS participation should not be a factor since he has almost 8 weeks to train.

We'll never know. You can't go bt the PPVs against Hatton. In the first place it's unlikely that people who watch that show but don't watch boxing are going to suddenly drop $60 on a fight in December b/c he danced ok. Secondly, we would never know if that's the case. But this along with other TV cameos, assuming there will be more, will increase his popularity in the long run.

He's never going to be exactly likeable, but you don't have to be to become a star, you just have to become recognizable.

These guys, especially HattonCOOL, don't seem bright enough to understand.

NAME RECOGNITION, NAME RECOGNITION, NAME RECOGNITION.

Floyd was in millions of households two nights per week (3X that 1st week).
Floyd had a USA Today article.
                Floyd was on Entertainment Tonight
                Floyd gets coverage on TMZ.
Floyd now was on Jimmy Kimmel live
Floyd was on Good Morning America
Floyd was on ESPN two days per week.

DANCING WITH THE STARS WAS THE VEHICLE THAT ENABLED ALL THAT EXPOSURE.

How is that a waste of time?? We can "agree to disagree" on opinions. Not on the sheer factual numbers. Some of you guys have ZERO understanding of how media works.

Had you ever heard of Kelly Monaco before DWTS?

I think what irked me most is that Floyd trains so hard and put in insane effort in the dancing (even if wasn't that good), but got no credit for the level of cross training that was going on. ****, the celebrity entertainment shows seem to be all over that soap opera *** that dances and then has to run over and host a reality show. That ain't **** compared to what Floyd is doing. I honestly believe if viewers saw what the hell Mayweather was doing when he wasn't dancing they would've been more receptive to him and perhaps peaked some of their interest in his upcoming fight. The celeb media may have covered it as well, if they saw he was hands down the hardest working one there this season.
