Cortez was a good ref at one point but is starting to slip a little. He has missed alot of calls over the pass few years.
Joe Cortez could have chosen to count in english...

Agreed! No 'one man' can see it all...literally. I have wondered if having 2 ref's in a fight , one to watch each boxer, would help or hurt any.....I know the ring is only so big, etc...but another view might help with 'missing' some of those fouls, etc..?? It's just a thought; maybe even a bad one.Originally posted by mic573Cortez was a good ref at one point but is starting to slip a little. He has missed alot of calls over the pass few years.
And of course such a thing will never happen.
I probably sound ****** for even thinking such a thing; that's why I said it was 'just a thought'

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL.Originally posted by joseare you kidding me with this ****?
I have never laughed harder reading a thread. Let me get this straight, are you people actually trying to tell me it took him longer because he counted in spanish?
This is pathetic. What if he had counted in German? As long as the fighter gets up before the count of 10 is all that matters.
Cortez is PUERTO RICAN you dumb ****s. He's not Mexican. If anything, he would've been pulling for Manny!
But fight fans over analyze the actions of refs too much and always make up some consipracy theory. Marquez got up and all the credit to him. Most refs would've stopped the fight after 3 knockdowns even though there was no 3 knockdown rule in effect. Credit Cortez for seeing Marquez's head was clear enough to defend himself.
I still thought Manny won by 3 points. But quit your bitching and blaming Cortez somehow. Losers!Comment

Thats what I meant when I said it would never happen. There is just so much that the ref cant possibly see that somebody is always getting a bit screwed sometimes. I hate it when a fighter get's penalized for a low blow that really didnt even look low, and then the other fighter hit's him low enough to make him sterile and the ref. doesnt even see it let alone penalize him for it. That sucks!!Originally posted by mic573Two referees is something that for sure won't happen at all. Hell one ref is too much sometimes when the fighters actually want to fight and he keeps wanting to show his face every five seconds or so.

Forget this idiot referee. Pacquiao can do better. He just need to put Marquez to sleep for an hour. Now the referee can count up to 100 if he likes.Comment

The Pacman fans are whining about something that may or may not even add up to being a single second, when Brewter was given an 20 extra seconds to recover from the beating he took in the 4th round.Originally posted by tracyleeActually, if you'll go back a few pages, you'll see that both were compared to each other and the difference was minimal. Oddly enough, I dont think it was ever decided who was worse.
Anyway, like him or not, Joe Cortez has been a respected ref. for many years and although I may not like him not 'helping' my guy out with a faster count or by taking points away for fouls (and there have been a few times that I wish he had done both...him and most of the other ref's at one point or another) that doesnt take away the fact that he IS a good ref. and isnt likely to retire any time soon.
The next time he officiates a fight that one of your favorites is in, thing's could go the other way and you may then decide that hes not so bad after all. You cant hold one call or one fight against an entire career.
Have you ever watched a fight with a favorite in it and the ref. NOT piss you off somehow, someway at some point? I havent, but if I let that persuade me that he's no good at his job I'd hate most of the ref's out there!
As for refs, the only bad reffing I've seen is in Wlad v. Brewster, Wlad v. TOS, and Vitali v. Lewis. Other than that, I am pretty sure I approve of reffing for every other fight.Comment

LMAO!!!!!!! I'm not surprised that you see a difference in what you do and what some other fans do..not at all. I'm even less surprised that the ONLY time you disagreed with any ref. was in a Klit fight; IMAGINE that!
OUt of curiousity, do you watch ANY other boxing besides the Klit bro's? Just going by the list you gave of bad officiating.
As for you being different cause theyre complaining about seconds, and excuse is an excuse, and your Klit boy's are loaded with themComment
