  • The National Pastime Is Not E Pluribus Sic 'em, but Boxing Can't Wave Its Flag Proudly

BY MICHAEL KATZ - Five years ago, when we went to adopt Kimball, the mutt, not the pure-bred sportswriter, we were given material on the care and feeding of dogs. There was a quote from Mahatma Gandhi on the cover:

“The greatness of a nation can be judged by the way its animals are treated.”

Let us not judge this land by Michael Vick or Roy Jones Jr. There can be no debate that fighting dogs or chickens is an abomination, and I don't care how “natural” it is. I mean, you don't hear Don King howling, “Only in America, the underdog must have its day because it's not the size of the dog in the fight, but as St. Thomas Aquinine said, it's the size of the fight in the dog.” Bob Arum isn't out hyping King Rex as the best in show of all-time. Not even boxing promoters, who make money (when they're good at it, like King and Arum) by satisfying the blood-lust of the public, would soil their hands on this so-called “sport” of dog-fighting. gamefowl fighting is cool to me, it is less worse than raising the chicken then killing them and cooking them and then eating, so if u have a problem with gamefowl fighting but u eat chicken **** u.

Humans are omniverous so eating chicken is actually a natural act. Tying razors to their feet and making them fight for a laugh (or a wager) is not.

anything u say if gamefowl fighting is cruel so is raising the chicken not even allowing it to breed with another chicken and then kill it and eat it, atleast the gamefowl gets to procreate the chicken raised for eating does not even cut it

First off the razors are used to make the fights MORE humane not less. The fights are shorter with the razors and promote non-fatality for the winner. Where previously the longer non-spur fights would often see the winner later die due to injuries and exhaustion.

                    Secondly,

This article is using the old trick of piggy backing a high profile illegal event, in this case dog fighting to villianize **** fighting which he obviously has very limited knowledge of.

Using the authors logic the next time someone dies from an illegal street fight there should be an article calling for an end to boxing
