Povetkin: Donald First, Klitschkos in The Future

Just nine days until up-and-coming heavyweight star Alexander Povetkin will lock horns with American veteran Larry Donald in Moscow. Today the pair came face-to-face at a press conference in the Russian capital. "This is a crucial point in Alexander´s career," co-manager Vlad Hrunov stated. "It will be a question of to be or not to be." [details]

His skills might be a bit "generic" but his punching power must be acknowledged. If he can get a spectacular win over Donald, the opportunity for a big money fight against one Klitschko brothers will likely come sooner rather than later. As to whether they "destroy" him remains to be seen. If he maintains his focus, I suspect that Povetkin could prove to be very tough customer.

Looking at Povetkin now, only a huge improvement over the next few years would convince me he can beat Wladimir Klitschko. As for Vitali, who the **** knows?

I serious doubt that Povetkin will make a "huge improvement" in his skills. At his age improvements tend to be few and far between. There are some serious flaws in his style like pulling straight back with his hands down. But in this current heavyweight division, who is likely to exploit it?

I've watched his fights on YouTube, and I see no weaknesses in him, except he doesn't move his head out of the way and receives more punches than he needs to. I like what I've seen so far, but his next couple of fights will answer a lot of questions. He might be the only boxer who can defeat Wlad, since he is that same type of fighter as the three boxers who have beaten him in the past: good chin, powerful puncher, very aggressive. However much remains to be seen. I'm a fan of both, but Wlad is the best heavyweight until it is proven otherwise.

I like Povetkin a lot. I'm very excited to see his career progress. He's young and still needs to work on a few things of course, but so far he looks like he has all the makings of a future contender. I also respect the fact he is taking such a big step up in competition.

He's already 27 and has only 12 pro fights...so much to being young, pro debut at 25 isn't young.
I like also like his competition, I HATE these guys who fight 30 bums first.
At Wladimir he has a better chance than Brewster, in my opinion

Hearing someone call out either one or both of the Klitschko's is nothing new. Many do it, and none succeed. We all know that this is also the case with young Mr. Povetkin, here.
