  • Will There Be A Requiem For James Toney?

By Terence Dooley - While watching a daringly taken pirate copy of James Toney's fortuitous win over Danny Batchelder (it was close and Toney did little to deserve the win), I was struck by how far Toney has fallen in the past eighteen months.

Great article, and very true, although from what I could see Toney won the fight, but he clearly looks shot.

His Requiem will be the MacDonalds jingle.

          James

Toney is one of the greatest fighters of all time. Period. Look at what he has done. He has come all the way up from 154 and had success.

Thanks for your feedback guys, always appreciated.

I sat on this piece for a week and found it hard to write. I am a huge Toney fan and it was sad to watch him in the Batchelder fight.

Saying that if he does show all his old moves in his next fight I will start to believe the impossible again.

Toney came from the lower weights and hung in there with the likes of Peter and Rahman. Jones did not even try to do that.

Toney's skills are going AWOL piece-by-piece but he is still a compelling figure.

People said toney was robbed in the first peter fight. I didn't see the first fight, but in the rematch i saw toney get the ever-living **** beat out of him for almost 12 straight rounds. I think he lost every round, if I remember right

Yeah because Peter knew what to expect in the second fight. He also had room to improve while Toney just got older and slower.

When I saw Toney's last fight I understood that it wasn't Piter who got improved since the first fight but James who started to remind me Butterbean.

Thx for the article. Enjoyable to read.

The more I think about it, the more apparent it is that Toney seems to resemble the great Muhammad Ali in his late stages of his career. Toney has had some memorable performances as hw, but in each subsessive fight he has gotten worse and his skills more diminished...But, like Ali, Toney believes that he can compete with the best and win the hw title. Unfortunately, the only way Toney will realize it's 'time to hang 'em up' is when he is beaten by someone like Batchelder, or Burbick...
