My official prediction of De La Hoya-Mayweather

The fight will be a tactical cat and mouse game, similar to the Hopkins-De La Hoya fight in the first round. Both men have great feints and will try to get their man out of position. By the second round, Mayweather will start to feel with the left jab to De La Hoya's body, but Oscar will come up a little short with right hand counters. By the end of the second though, De La Hoya will land his first left hook, though it won't be solid. It will however make Floyd become more respectful. By the third, Floyd will continue to throw one punch at a time trying to get in and out, whereas De La Hoya will continue to try to land the jab and right hand, and will score from time to time with computer point shots.

By the fourth, Mayweather will start to assert himself more as De La Hoya slows down a little bit. Mayweather's confidence will begin to rise but De La Hoya's mere presence will prevent Mayweather from going in on him too aggressively. The fight will be even or De La Hoya will have a 4-2 lead on Lederman's card, but the fight will remain tough to score.

In the eighth, De La Hoya will land a serious left hook that he sets up with a random body assault. Mayweather will not wobble so much as he will fall in and try to gain a brief reprieve. De La Hoya will rally and appear on the verge of taking the fight over, but Mayweather will use his guile and maturity to hang in there. Mayweather will try to regain the momentum in the ninth, but he will be more wary than before. Oscar will take that close round. In the tenth, Oscar will slow down some, but Mayweather will be in Atlanta 1996 mode trying to win every round.

In the championship rounds, Roger will tell Floyd that he is in Oscar country on his show and needs to get down to serious business. Floyd will try to rally, but Oscar will do enough offensive posturing to stay in there tight. But Floyd will just be the man he always said he was and barely outfight Oscar to a decision.

The score will be 115-113 for Floyd on two cards, and 114-114 on the third.

I'm convinced that you don't even know how to read, either that or you don't even care to bother.

Anyway, great prediction AsianSensation, it was well thought it. I do happen to think the fight will go pretty much the same way, yet not quite as close.

I'm predicting 116-112, 116-112, 115-113. or something along those lines. A comfortable decision.

I think it will be an even fight for the first 6-7 rounds or so, before Mayweather really starts pouring it on, and dominating the fight from there on out.

I'm going to feel really bad for you when that doesn't happen. Because it's not.

You're going to be one sad dude on May 6th.

                  Good post AsianSensation

                  My official prediction

In the opening rounds, it will be very even. From round one, both fighters will try to establish the jab. Mayweather will be more effective in the first round. In the second round, de la Hoya has been told he needs to be a little stronger. He sets his jab up nicely, as Mayweather sets out to take it away by discouraging him with counters and upperbody movement, but Oscar is too acurate for him, and towards the end of the round, lands his first de la Hoya right hand-left hook. Round three will be an even round, with Mayweather recovering and respecting de la Hoya more, not too much action, both fighters pop the jab and the right hand. Round four, Mayweather has his best round of the fight, and gets into his right hand groove, landing many clean shots in a row, de la Hoya is coming up short, but manages to catch him near the bell a good left uppercut while Mayweather is trying to counter him off the ropes, but it isn't enough to take the round.

In round five, Oscar gets more aggressive and comes to Mayweather more. He uses headmovement of his own, and hits Mayweather over top of his left and follows to the body. Mayweather isn't badly hurt at any point in the round, but Oscar slows him down. Clear round for de la Hoya. Round Six, both fighters are more aggressive, hard to score, with tactical see-saw action, both fighters landing, and driving each other back. Round seven, de la Hoya continues his body attack, and pushes Mayweather around the ring, connects cleanly several times with big shots, hurting Mayweather to the head, shoulders, and body, but Mayweather hanging on well. Round eight, de la Hoya continues to push, wearing Mayweather out a bit. Mayweather coming up short with punches and missing his target, he is thinking defensive. Round nine, Mayweather recovers and hits de la Hoya cleanly, snapping his jab and controlling the inside of the ring, de la Hoya attempts to pressure like the previous rounds, but can't seem to find the rythem again. Mayweather rocks de la Hoya towards the bell, but fails to follow up. Clear round for Mayweather. In round ten, it is fairly even, Mayweather controlling early on, moving away from de la Hoya's larger shots, but later in the round, de la Hoya is landing that jab, and towards the end he lands a good flurry, hitting Mayweather squarely and hurting him to the body to follow up. Round 11 begins well for Mayweather, though both fighters look tired and battered. He pops the jab, moves away, and lands a few good right hands. He continues to move, while de la Hoya effectivly works the jab. He has Mayweather on the ropes, goes to the body, and then upstairs he lands a great Jab, straight, hook combo that floors Mayweather. Mayweather is badly hurt, but up before 8. de la Hoya jumps on him again, Mayweather attempts to roll out of the way, but its no use as de la Hoya pulls him out to the center and batters him. He goes down with a thunderous boom, and the referee waves the fight off, while the Mayweather rises in frustration.

                  Round 1: 10-9 Mayweather
Round 2: 10-9 de la Hoya
                  Round 3: 10-9 Mayweather
                  Round 4: 10-9 Mayweather
Round 5: 10-9 de la Hoya
                  Round 6: 10-9 Mayweather
Round 7: 10-9 de la Hoya
Round 8: 10-9 de la Hoya
                  Round 9: 10-9 Mayweather
                  Round 10: 10-10 de la Hoya/Mayweather
Round 11: Oscar de la Hoya-TKO-Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Scoring at time of stoppage: 117-115 x3 for Mayweather.
