it's who has a solid overall defense and uses it most effectively to help win a fight that counts...

        What?....

        Could you rephrase that?

Toney's defense is more about him rolling with the punches than avoiding them all together. I think its hard to tell just how great his defense was unless you really examine the fight. Right now hes slowed down both mentally and physically though.

            Mayweather is the best.

Bernard would smile if he read some of this.

                Another affirmation.

His defense is so blindingly good people can't see it..

So if I make you miss and then I stick out my tounge, I'm better?

Bernard is too busy cutting his opponent down when they miss for anyone to notice.

No head nodding and bull**** like these other boys..

it is very tough to call

                  these are very different fighters.

Winky has a very tight defense, but he cannot really mount an attack other than 1-2s without opening up a little and getting caught.

Hopkins was too busy raping his opponents to defend himself, but his D is also awesome.

Toney has a great D, in his prime he would use it AND throw a ton of shots, he got hit in the process but he also mounted a very considting and varied attack form behind it. in his older days as HW, he used it in a different but still effective way.

Mayweather is right now as close to perfect in terms of technique as one could possibly desire to witness with his eyes, but he is only 30. so his reflexes are 90% still there, although he is a tad slower than in the past. So to really evaluate his D, we should wait for him to slow down (if he retires we just won't see i guess)

all in all i dont think like casting a vote here: this is one of those situations where other factors have to get in, not just who gets hit less, also who can win against who and how.
