Okay, for future reference....I never refer to any fighter as a "bum"...it's an insult to a man who has the courage to get in the ring.

Brownpimp keeps referring to old school fighters as "bums"....so, that was my retaliation. Everything must be read in context.

Well, to be honest, I switch Foster (who I have at 6) with Spinks off and on; but do feel Micael beat a better grade of competition.

Other light heavies of note: Maxie Rosenbloom, Tommy Loughran, Georges Carpantier, Joey Maxim, Elmer Ray, Charley Burley, & Sam Langford.

.....John Conteh & Victor Galindez, along with Matthew Saad Muhammad, Eddie Mustafa Muhammad, and Dwight Qawi were some tough as nails modern light-heavies. Spinks came along at the right time to prove his worth....he just had an annoying style for me personally; but it freakin' worked.

You don't hear Elmer "Violent" Ray very much. He was some kind of a puncher.

I really dig the nickname, too. LOL!!! Can you imagine the 40's with Ray, Burley, Moore, and Charles all going back and forth at middlweight and light-heavy??

It's a wonder Ray never got a shot...he was ranked as a heavy at the time Louis was champ too I believe.

Well, then again, it's no wonder really. If Robinson didn't give Burley a shot and Johnson didn't give Langford a shot...etc.

I guess boxing realy hasn't changed that much in the last hundred years.

He was until you said something I thought he was mostly a heavyweight. Louis basically drew the color line mostly in his reign.

****. He was mostly a heavy...the other guys moved up to fight him.

My bad. For some reason I thought he was middle/light heavy like the rest of murderers row.

...and I should have thrown Walcott's name into that mix.

Most people don't know who Ray is so it doesn't matter much.
